Dr. Rohini Kelkar is a highly respected Senior Consultant in Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology, currently associated with SL Raheja Hospital, where she leads initiatives in Hospital Infection Control. With a remarkable tenure of 32 years at Tata Memorial Centre, she played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Clinical Microbiology, which is recognized for its NABL Accreditation. As a former Director of Laboratories and Professor and Head of the Microbiology Department, she has shaped the future of microbiology education as a post-graduate teacher and director of a long-standing Certificate Course in Hospital Infection Control.
Dr. Kelkar’s extensive training experience includes conducting WHO programs during the SARS outbreak and her international studies in Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Technologies and Medical Mycology. Her accolades include the Lifetime Achievement Award from MPCB for her environmental contributions and the privilege of delivering the Ajitha Mehta Memorial Oration at the Hospital Infection Society of India.
A prolific author with 70 scientific publications, Dr. Kelkar has contributed to WHO guidelines and textbook chapters on critical topics such as infections in cancer and hospital infection control. As Vice-President of the Hospital Infection Society-India and Deputy Chief Editor of the Journal of Patient Safety and Infection Control, she continues to make significant strides in her field.
